Inaugural Great American Trading Card Auction- Closing October 1
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/2/2016
Graded 50 VG/EX 4 by SGC. This is one of three examples at its tier (with nine specimens graded higher) among a total of 69 copies recorded in SGC's census reporting. Offered is a very scarce caramel card of "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, portraying the great hitter with his first Major League team, the Philadelphia A's. Although this desirable card is, technically, fairly graded in its present encapsulation, a number of its positive intangibles are left unaccounted-for by the numerical assessment. Jackson's image is commendably well-focused for the issue, with notably fine definition in the details of his face and uniform. The lavender-backgrounded illustration has suffered no interference from time's effects, with condition discrepancies justifying the grade almost wholly confined to the corners. The ballplayer's likeness is complete and fully presentable, as is all of the card's print on both front and back sides. Like most "E" cards, this one is composed of fragile stock that would have been next-to-impossible to preserve under anything less than optimal conditions. It's certain that the offered piece compares very favorably among its extremely limited demographic. Admirable and exclusive Very Good to Excellent condition.
