Babe Ruth Auction to Benefit Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/6/2016
Babe Ruth's fondness for children is well known, and his warm-heartedness is on full view in this charming 1926 photo of the slugger with his own daughter. Dorothy Ruth (1921-1989) was actually Babe's child by his mistress, Juanita Jennings, yet up until her 59th birthday in 1980, Dorothy always believed that her adopted mother Helen was her birth mother. (Helen perished in a house fire early in 1929. From then on, Dorothy was raised by the Babe and his second wife, Claire.) The nicely preserved Original Type 1 Photograph measures 8" x 10", and has been beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 19" x 16". Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
