A period image of a Yankee legend in a lighthearted moment – hamming it up on the saxophone! – is truly something special. But when that depiction carries a warm, personal greeting to a friend, and features the flowing ink signature of its famed subject, the piece becomes virtually priceless. Ruth seems to have been comfortable showing off his musical chops when this picture was taken, and he must have delighted in sharing it with the recipient. His bold penmanship reads, "To My Pal - Emory Perry - From - [signed] 'Babe' Ruth - June 17th - 1928." The photograph of Ruth is sublime in character and beautifully focused, and every element of his signature and inscription is carefully inked. Beautifully matted and framed to 12" x 16" total dimensions. LOA from PSA/DNA. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
