A fascinating and personal Babe Ruth relic, this 2"-diameter metal locker tag features well-defined, engraved lettering reading "LOCKER 3 / YANKEE STADIUM / THE BRONX, NEW YORK" on the front and "BABE RUTH 3" on the reverse. The piece has simply been affected by time (as opposed to physical wear), and displays attractively with a nice vintage patina. This is a key, tangible element serving to remind the observer of Babe Ruth's relationship with Yankee Stadium: that of one legend to another.  In December, 2004, a Ruth locker tag example like this one fetched $9,200 in Sotheby's "Important Baseball Memorabilia" auction (Lot 144). Research has shown additional copies were produced for the Babe to hand out to a lucky few.  Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
