Babe Ruth Auction to Benefit Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/6/2016
Here are four scarce and delicate items that were produced during the Babe's heyday, and which successfully exploited his extraordinary popularity. The quartet includes: Circa 1930 Lion Brand Sport Shirts "Moviescope" Thumb Movie - Bringing the action imagery of Babe Ruth's swing to the palm of a child’s hand, this very scarce flip movie (or “thumb movie,” or “flickering page” novelty) must have been the talk of the playground in its day. On the cover of the 1-3/4” x 2-1/2” item) is Ruth as a satisfied customer – bat-in-hand, and sporting a Lion Brand shirt. The action pages picture the Babe wearing uniform #3 (first worn in 1929); Mid-1930s Quaker Babe Ruth "How To ..." Advertising Pamphlets (2) - These were distributed with Ruth's exhaustive Quaker Oats promotion of the '30s. Includes the titles, "How to Play the Infield" and "How to Throw Curves"; Circa 1943 Spalding Radio Program Babe Ruth "Questions and Answers" Advertising Booklet - 3" x 6", 12 pages, detailing a Q&A session with Ruth. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
