A superb glove man, 13-year major league veteran Ken Keltner is perhaps most often recalled as the man responsible for bringing an end to Joe DiMaggio’s record 56-game hitting streak, when he made a pair of backhanded grabs at third base for the Cleveland Indians against DiMaggio’s Yankees on July 17, 1941. A seven-time All-Star, Keltner could also hit as well finishing his career with a respectable .276 batting average, he hit a career-high .325 in 1939. He also reached career highs with 26 home runs 113 RBI in 1938. Keltner was presented with this size 11.5, 15.6-gram, 14K All-Star game ring when he was named to his third AL squad in 1942. Gold ring with copper top contains a single sapphire cut diamond in the center of a baseball diamond on its top with four cut glass diamonds at each of the three bases and home plate with the words: “All-Star, New York, All-Service and Cleveland” engraved along the base paths. The game was played at the New York Giants Polo Grounds home park on July 6, 1942 and won by the American League by a score of 3-1. “14K” and a manufacturer’s trademark are engraved in the interior band and the ring comes with a letter of sale signed by Keltner’s son Randy.
