Auction records show just two of these 1975 commemorative rings surfacing in the past 15 years—one of which, Robin Roberts' example, sold for over $17,000. The offered example hails from the "Voice of the Phillies," play-by-play announcer Gene Kelly, about whom Philly's later broadcaster Merrill Reese said, "You could turn on the radio and when you heard Gene Kelly's voice you knew if the Phillies won or lost. I just loved listening to him." The Balfour 10K-gold, size 9-1/2 ring celebrates the beloved 1950 N.L. pennant winners with a red-stone-and-gold-ball top, and then shank designs of old Connie Mack Stadium and new Vet Stadium. Near Mint condition. Accompanied by a Balfour box and 1998 purchase LOA stating that the ring "had come out of the late Kelly's estate."
