Over the past two decades, the record auction price for an '83 O's player ring is approximately $20,000 paid for Mike Flanagan's showpiece in 2014. Staff-member examples, meanwhile, have sold for as much as $12,000. Offered here is the Balfour 10K-gold, size 10 ring issued to press secretary Bob Brown in the Orioles' PR Department. It features flashy raised lettering of "ORIOLES" surrounded by 60 points of diamonds. Condition is technically EX-MT due to light age wear in the shank recesses but overall display quality is NM. An accompanying 1990 purchase LOA from California Numismatic Investments reads, in part, "This ring was obtained from Mr. [Robert (Bob)] Brown by a major collector, prior to being purchased by California Numismatics...Mr. Brown was given the ring by the team as he was an employee serving in the position of press secretary during their 1983 championship season." Also included is the vintage Balfour metal-trim presentation box.

As to the grand legacy of the '83 O's, none other than Cal Ripken, Jr. said it best in his foreword to Thom Loverro's book Oriole Magic: "The one team that may personify everything that the Orioles stand for is the 1983 world championship club. It was the Orioles philosophy at its best: a team with players who came up through the farm system…filled in by players we had traded for who fit into the Orioles style of play…That 1983 roster was the team concept at its best. We knew we were good. We liked each other and we felt that there was talent and good chemistry on the team. It seemed as if there was a different hero every single night.”
