Instantly recognizable in his trademark goggles, Moses Malone had one of the coolest nicknames in sports. “The Chairman of the Boards”, Moses was simply the most dominant rebounder of his era, possibly in basketball history. The numbers bear it out: As the all-time leader in offensive rebounds by more than 2,500, Moses led the league in rebounding 6 times and and is third all-time in total rebounds, combining ABA & NBA statistics. Add to that his 3 MVP Awards, his Finals MVP and an NBA Championship in 1983, and you have the legacy of a special player, another legend gone too soon.
These goggles were game worn by Malone while a member of the Washington Bullets. The goggles are made from hard plastic, with a brown rubber nose pad. The bridge of the goggles, along with both temple tips, is wrapped in a cushiony material that is taped in place, as are both temple tips. The outside cushion on the right temple is initialed MM in black sharpie, while the inside of the same cushion reads 2001 (for his Hall of Fame Induction year). The cushion on the left temple is inscribed HOF. The goggles are secured with an elastic head strap, and accompanied by a letter that reads “I, Moses Malone Sr. Hereby verify that these are the Game Worn Goggles I used as a member of the Washington Bullets from 1986-1988. I have signed the goggles with my initials and they come from my personal collection. Moses Malone Sr. September 2, 2015”. Malone has signed the letter “Moses Malone Sr.”. With his recent passing, this item is a must have for any sports fans collection.
