In 2000 Ray Lewis was the cornerstone of what many experts consider the greatest defense in the history of the NFL. The Lewis-led Ravens defense set a new record for fewest points allowed and fewest rushing yards allowed. Thanks to Lewis and company, one third of the Ravens regular season wins were shutouts. Lewis was named Defensive Player of the Year and then followed that up with being named Super Bowl XXXV MVP.

It was one of the finest single player performances in recent history and this helmet was there throughout it all. As can be determined by the factory date code stamped inside, the helmet was manufactured in 1998. Reconditioning decals from '98 and '99 are present as is a 2000 Gunther recertification sticker and an updated face mask, demonstrating that Lewis used this helmet over the course of several NFL seasons. Most importantly, game used experts MEARS have determined through photo and video research that Ray Lewis donned this helmet during the 2000 playoffs and in the Ravens Super Bowl XXXV win.

The Riddell helmet shows great game use with awesome abrasions and scuff marks from game contact - exactly what you'd expect from being worn by a Super Bowl MVP. The helmet has the purple, gold and white Ravens decal on both sides with two purple stripes on the crown. The back of the helmet has Lewis' number "52" in gold and white decals. The NFL logo decal and gold warning label are affixed to the left and right read of the helmet. The inside of the helmet has the complete protective padding and Lewis' black bandana has left faint transfer traces on them. The Ravens star has signed the right side of the helmet in silver pen, making this about as perfect a Super Bowl MVP gamer as you can get. Lack of a 2001 refurbishing sticker supports that Super Bowl XXXV was the very last game in which Lewis used this helmet. This helmet comes with photo matched research and a DVD of full broadcasts of all the Ravens playoff games leading up to and including Super Bowl XXXV. It also comes with a Letter of Authenticity from MEARS and COA from PSA/DNA (P44355).
