Very seldom does someone touted as the ‘Next’ so-and-so ever really live up to that expectation. In the case of Clayton Kershaw, it appears the early comparisons to Sandy Koufax were accurate.
Since entering the majors in 2008, Kershaw’s career ERA among pitchers with at least 1,000 innings pitched is the lowest among starters in the live-ball era. He also became the first pitcher in MLB history to lead the majors in ERA for four consecutive years when he accomplished that feat from 2011 through 2014. In 2011, Kershaw won the pitching Triple Crown and the National League Cy Young Award, becoming the youngest pitcher to accomplish either of these feats since 1985. In 16 starts in 2016, Kershaw had a 11-2 record, a 1.79 ERA and an unbelievable 145-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Couple that with the three Cy Young Awards and the 2014 National League Most Valuable Player Award already under his belt, there is little doubt Kershaw is on his way to an eventual stop in Cooperstown.
While any Kershaw jersey worn in action in highly desirable, a jersey worn by Kershaw when recording a significant win is truly a gem. This jersey was worn by Kershaw on May 26, 2015 when Kershaw pitched seven scoreless innings while striking out 10 Atlanta Braves en route to his career win number 101. This Majestic #22 Dodgers home jersey has some staining around the collar and shows moderate game use. It is tagged with MLB Authentication hologram #HZ533983 and the MLB database description of the jersey includes the notation of Kershaw's 101st win.
