Al Simmons compiled an impressive, Hall of Fame resume during a 20-year playing career. In addition to winning 2 American League batting titles, he is also a 2-time World Series Champion with the Philadelphia Athletics. His career .334 batting average ranks #23 on the all-time list, and his 1,828 RBI’s are 19th all-time. When his playing career ended in 1944, Simmons served as a coach with the A’s for five years before moving on to coach with the Indians.
This unique lot of 15 signed checks originated during this brief tenure with Cleveland. Each check is signed Al H. Simmons on the front lower right corner, and many of them are endorsed on the back by Simmons, as well. Each check bears a date ranging from March 14th to August 21st, 1950. Also included is an envelope, addressed to Mr. A.H. Simmons of Milwaukee, WI, with the type-written address crossed out and the words Auditorium Hotel Cleveland, Ohio in an unknown hand written below. This lot has been pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
