Andre Dawson’s 1,591 career RBI rank 37th on the all-time list placing him ahead of such luminaries as Rogers Hornsby, Harmon Killebrew, Al Kaline and Willie McCovey. Dawson racked up a career-high 137 RBI in his 1987 NL MVP season, eclipsing the 100 RBI mark four times in his 21-year career. Dawson hit this Rawlings A. Bartlett Giamatti Official National League ball off Houston Astros pitcher Bob Knepper for a sacrifice fly scoring Cubs shortstop Shawon Dunston with the 1,000th RBI of his career at the Astrodome on May 14, 1988. Off-white ball shows minimal game-use as it was probably not in the game for long with some residual rubdown mud and one black ink transfer on a side panel most likely the spot where Dawson hit the ball. “1000 Career RBI” is inscribed by Dawson in prominent black marker on the same side panel as the ink transfer and has been covered with a thin coat of lacquer. The “Sat. May 14, 1988” date of game and complete inning-by-inning line score is written on the sweet spot in blue ball point pen and the ball comes with a notarized letter of authenticity from Dawson.
