Andre Dawson and Gary Carter were teammates on the Montreal Expos for nine years from 1976-1984 and one could easily make a case for either one of them as the all-time face of the franchise. Carter was traded by the Expos to the New York Mets at the conclusion of the 1984 season leaving as Montreal’s franchise leader with 220 home runs. Dawson hit this Charles S Feeney Official National League ball off Chicago Cubs pitcher Dave Gumpert in the bottom of the eighth inning of the Expos 5-4 victory at Olympic Stadium on August 14, 1986 to tie Carter’s franchise mark at 220. Dawson inscribed this caramel colored ball with “Home run No. 220 Expos All-Time Record” in blue/green felt tip marker. An inscription on another side panel reads: “Aug. 14, 1986 Dawson, H.R. vs. Cubs.” Ball has a hard scuff and black ink transfer marks on the side panel across the “Cushion Cork Center” labeling and comes with a notarized letter of authenticity from Dawson.
