This May 10, 1942 letter written to the "Exalted Leader" of the Elks is an example of why Babe Ruth was the classiest ballplayer of all-time: ravaged by the sickness that would take him in 5 short years and working full-time as a consultant to "Pride of the Yankees", Ruth took the time to write a letter thanking a fan for sending him get well wishes.
The poignant letter reveals Ruth's fragile health at that point and the special place letters from his admirers found in his heart: "There is only one nice thing about being ill and that is the number of friends who are kind and thoughtful enough to send cheering messages". The letter, typed on Samuel Goldwyn Inc. letterhead is signed by Ruth in his timeless script. Bold and solid, the signature has been graded by PSA/DNA to be a perfect 10. The signature is in perfect condition because it was left undisturbed inside a large scrapbook where it resided for over 70 years. The letter has been removed from a scrapbook and is mounted on a page with a two other Elks-related items on the reverse. An outstanding example of not only Ruth's beautiful signature, but also the man's unlimited appreciation of the fans who helped make him "Babe Ruth". Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA and JSA.
