The Beatles 1965 Shea Stadium concert was perhaps the most electrifying event of its time, and ushered in the British Invasion of rock and roll music. When The Fab Four arrived in Flushing, NY, they were being filmed for the eventual 50 minute documentary “The Beatles at Shea Stadium” a film produced by variety-show host Ed Sullivan. Portions of this film show the Beatles in the Shea Stadium umpire's locker room before the show, tuning up, knocking around guitar riffs, but mostly clowning around for the cameras. The film also shows the row of lockers the youngsters used to store equipment, personal items and being “their general space” for the show. Offered here are those exact lockers used by the Beatles, removed and secured from the umpire’s locker room before Shea was demolished. These one-of-a-kind relics are being offered by as one lot, and individually, by Goldin Auctions. With general use over the years, normal wear and tear obviously occurred. However, as seen in the accompanying images taken right before removal, the lockers were “improved” over time with new paint, but the lockers are all original and similar to the day The Beatles used them on their maiden voyage to the United States. We simply cannot stress enough the significance The Beatles had on rock and roll music within the United States, and what was the beginning of the British Invasion which witnessed other bands such as The Rolling Stones, The Who (who also played Shea Stadium) hopping the pond for the fame and fortune of the United States. Over the years many short term tenants of Shea Stadium used the lockers, but nobody more important than The Beatles. Locker is authenticated by Major League Baseball. If the sum of the individual lockers exceeds the price for the entire six locker set, then the lockers will be sold individually. However, if the sum of the full set exceeds the individual prices, then the set will be declared the winning bid. YOU ARE BIDDING ON LOCKER L2.
