This baseball was used during the New York Yankees 3-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox on September 26th, 2009. This was the 99th win of the season for New York, and the Yankees would proceed to win the 2009 World Series over the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. CC Sabathia took the hill for the Yankees during this game, throwing seven innings of one-hit ball before Phil Hughes and Mariano Rivera closed out the game. Derek Jeter went 2-3, while Johnny Damon knocked in two runs and Robinson Cano rounded out the scoring with a solo home run.
This Allan H. Selig Official Major League baseball has been signed by the quartet of Yankees known as “The Core Four”. Jeter and Rivera signed their names to the left of the sweet spot below a Yankee Stadium inaugural season logo. Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada signed the baseball on the panels above and below the sweet spot. Pettitte added the inscription “5x WS Champs”. The signatures have all been written in blue pen. This item, a limited edition seven of 20, comes with a hologram from Steiner Sports, and a MLB Authenticated hologram (LH 685288), which dates the use of this ball to the September 26th contest.
