The 1991 season for the Baltimore Orioles was to be the final one in legendary Memorial Field. After relocating as the St. Louis Browns to Baltimore to become the Orioles, they began their inaugural season of 1954 in Memorial Stadium, where the old Baltimore Orioles of the International League played. To commemorate their final season in the stadium which witnessed the 1966, 1970 and 1983 World Series Championships, the Orioles wore special patches for Opening Day 1991, as well as the second game of the season. The team nickname “Orioles” is across the chest, with his number “8” below. His name “RIPKEN” is across the back on a white nameplate, with his number “8” below. All lettering and numbers are in orange on black tackle twill. Inside the lower front tail has the “Rawlings 48” manufacturers size tag, with attached “2 INCH EXTRA LENGTH” tag and “SET 1 1991” flag tag. In addition, a white strip tag contains the letter “T” and is stitched next to this manufacturing tag. On the left should is the all important “Orioles Memorial Stadium 1954-1991” patch, worn only for the 1991 Opening Day games. This jersey was given to MeiGray to photo match and it was determined that high definition photographs required to match the jersey were not available for the second game. The front of the jersey exhibits a bold, black sharpie “Cal Ripken Jr. 91 AL MVP” signature and inscription. This is an extremely significant jersey worn by one of the greatest Baltimore Orioles players in history, worn during the Opening Day series of the final season at the majestic Memorial Stadium. Comes with LOA from noted sports jersey expert Dave Miedema.
