One way for H&B to sell store bats was to apply a decal of the player to his “pro like” store model bat. Decal bats were produced since the early part of the century, even before model numbers were introduced. Ty Cobb decal bats were a huge hit, with the bats being used by his young fans for pickup and sandlot games. This 34 inch, 33.2 ounce Louisville Slugger “40 – T.C.” bat was produced during the 1922-25 labeling period, and originally had a distinct Ty Cobb decal on the barrel. AS with most other full length decal bats, there are remnants of the decal visible, but much of the Cobb image has worn away from general wear and bat use. This use includes an upper handle crack, and ball marks along the barrel. Some slight deadwood was repaired with a small nail. Store model decal bats are especially popular with collectors. Full LOA from PSA/DNA, cert number 1B07743.
