After he retired from baseball in 1928, Ty Cobb eased into a comfortable life due to his savvy investments in Coca-Cola and other companies in the stock market. Voted into the Hall of Fame in 1936 as one of the original inductees, Cobb garnered the highest percentage of votes; more than Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Honus Wagner and even Babe Ruth! Cobb spent his post-baseball days traveling, hunting and playing golf and donating to various causes. This “First National Bank of Nevada check is dated “8/12/53” and made payable to “Frank L Stephan Estate” for “$25.00”, and is made out by Cobb in his trademark green ink, boldly signed “Tyrus R. Cobb” on the appropriate line. Cobb’s full name is pre-printed along the left border. The flowing green signature is unaffected by the cancellation holes or bank stamps.
