As sad as Boston fans were with Ted Williams' retirement, the following season brought an able replacement in young Carl Yastrzemski. Besides being a really good hitter, Yaz proved to be a much better outfielder than Williams, eventually earning seven Golden Gloves, and played the Green Monster better than anybody ever. Like his predecessor, Yastrzemski had a long and productive career with Boston and ended up in the Hall of Fame, having his finest season (the last Triple Crown year in the Majors before Miguel Cabrera in 2012) in 1967. In the midst of a nail-biting pennant race with Detroit and Minnesota, Carl’s final weeks of the 1967 season might have been the greatest ever in baseball history. You could look it up! Based upon manufacturer’s ordering records this 35 inch, 33.5 ounce W215 model bat was used by Yaz during the 1965-1968 seasons. This un-cracked bat shows evidence of light use, with his famed number "8" appearing on the knob in black marker. On the bat’s sweet spot appears a bold, blue Sharpie “Carl Yastrzemski 1967” signature. Full LOA from PSA/DNA, cert number 1B08472.
