In 1986 Roger Clemens was the best pitcher in baseball, registering a 24-4 overall record, with a 2.38 ERA and 238 strikeouts in 254 innings. He also threw 10 complete games. To put this in perspective, it is likely no pitcher this season will win 20 games, and no TEAM will have 10 complete games. Clemens wore this jersey during that great 1986 season when he won the American League Cy Young Award, and the American League Most Valuable Player Award. The white knit jersey has “RED SOX” across the front with red piping around the neck and framing the button down front. The lower front tail has the “Wilson 44” manufacturers wash tag with white strip tag stitched below with the year “86” stitched in black thread. Inside the collar is a black marker “Roger Clemens” signature with added “M.V.P. Cy Young ‘20Ks’” referencing his April 29, 1986 game against Seattle when Clemens whiffed a record 20 batters in a single game. The reverse has only his number “21”, and all lettering and numbers are in red on navy blue tackle twill. This is an outstanding game worn jersey from one of baseball’s greatest pitchers, during his most awarded season of his long career.
