Babe Ruth was a larger than life personality, and when he was around people in a social setting, the Babe always aimed to please, especially when it concerned young children. Therefore, there was no doubt when Ruth was asked to autograph a baseball and to inscribe it to a young Mike Sainsbury, he graciously complied. This light creamy-toned OAL William Harridge sphere is boldly penned by Ruth “To My Pal Mike Sainsbury From Babe Ruth” in blue ballpoint, just to the left of the label. The sweet spot contains a very nice “Connie Mack” signature, but has the k slightly affected by a ball scrape. Other side panels contain blue or black ink signatures of Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Harmon Killebrew, Frank Robinson, and an inscribed full panel with “To Mike Peace Ernie Banks Chicago Cubs 1973.” All 500 home run club signatures grade (“8-9”) in strength, except Banks which grades a (“7”). Accompanying this signed ball is a three page typed letter from Mike Sainsbury’s father, who describes his meeting with Babe Ruth, and how he obtained the signature. The story is quite interesting and a good read. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
