Created as part of the World’s Fair held in Chicago, the first ever Major League Baseball All Star game was the brainchild of Arch Ward, Chicago Tribune’s sports editor. What was an exhibition as part of a larger celebration became one of the most popular one day sporting events in sports history. Offered is a black and white 1933 All-Star Game scorecard is a "sold in streets" example. The four-page (including both covers) scorecard is one example of many sold outside the stadium for those fans following the game via broadcast media. Although this relic did not originate from Comiskey Park, the 7 x 10 inch scorecard includes small portrait images of the participants on the inside, surrounding the extensively detailed scoring area. The names and teams of the players and managers are printed below the images, but the batting lineups are not pre-printed with the names of the starting nine, and the game is un-scored. The front cover has the date “July 1933” written in pencil at the top, and contains an advertisement for “John J. Hayes Stores for Men”. The cover loudly proclaims this game as the “All-Star Baseball Game of the Century,” and in smaller type indicates fans could obtain “Additional scorecards free at any Hayes Hat Stores,” while the back cover also has an ad for the same store. Hayes Stores for Men likely was the producer of this scorecard to drum up additional street business. Condition is FAIR with several heavy pocket folds (probably folded and put into a Hayes for Men sport coat!), and multiple creases and moderate tears. This is a scarcely seen scorecard from the inaugural All Star Game, which featured the first All Star game home run by Babe Ruth, which led the American League 4-2 victory and was the start of the annual mid-summer classic.
