The 1940s were a unique time for Major league Baseball as many of the game's stars went off to war, missing several years and multiple All Star games. In fact, the 1945 game was not played due to World War II. This collection of seven programs covers most of the contests from that decade. Includes: 1942 – played at New York’s Polo Grounds, scored in pencil. Grades Poor to Fair with detached cover, tape and extensive ink writing on cover describing the game and score; 1943 – Played at Philadelphia’s Shibe Park, not scored but ink “box score” within scorecard section. Staining along bottom edge of first 10 pages, loose cover kept together with tape. Original owner’s name written on first page. Grades Good; 1944 – Scarce Forbes Field program, un-scored (very few big names included in lineups), with moderate cover staining and light edge wear. Grades Very Good to Excellent; 1946 – Boston’s Fenway Park (Ted Williams in lineup), this smaller (almost 7x10) low quality paper program remains in Excellent condition with light staining but strong spine and nice pages; 1947 – Wrigley Field, scored with Williams and DiMaggio in lineup. Grades Very Good/Excellent; 1948 – St. Louis’ Sportsman’s Park, un-scored, large (9x12) format program, with corner creases and full length vertical crease near spine. Owner stamp on back cover; 1949 – Ebbetts Field, scored program, with light edge wear with strong spine. Grades Very Good to Excellent. Total of seven All Star programs.
