Up for auction is the first issue of Sports Illustrated dated Aug. 16, 1954, in its original mailing envelope. The cover features Milwaukee Braves’ Eddie Mathews and shows no creases or markings. Within this 144-page magazine is the intact three-page center foldout of 1954 Topps baseball cards including players such as Mathews, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams, Vern Law, Bob Turley, Wally Moon, Duke Snider and 19 more. The back of each card depicts the player’s record and standings. The original binding and pages are intact.
