Wayne Maxner played two seasons in the mid-60s as a left wing for the Boston Bruins, and never really left the game he loved. Becoming an assistant coach, Maxner worked his way up the ranks of the Detroit Red Wings, to be head coach for two seasons from 1980-82. He coached 129 games, finishing with 34 victories. This ring was presented to Maxner after his first season. The 10K/25.3 gram ring has a red stone with the Red Wings logo affixed to the top. Surrounding the face is “DETROIT RED WINGS N.H.L.” One shank has a standard hockey player with a banner and the name “MAXNER” engraved, while the second shank has the same pattern with “COACH” engraved. Inside the band is the “JOSTENS 10K P” engraving. This is the exact ring presented to the Detroit Red Wings head coach after the 1980-81 season, and while proudly worn many times, it still retains a Near Mint appearance.
