With the excitement exhibited earlier this summer regarding the World Cup played in Brazil, it is apparent the game of “futbol” is certainly the World’s Game. In 1970, the World Cup was played in Mexico, and saw powerful Brazil, led by the great Pele, defeated Italy to again win the World Cup. This size 10/12.2 gram 10K gold ring was either issued for player participation in the event, or awarded to a player on a specific team provided by the players country. It features a soccer ball on the face, surrounded by “MUNDIAL DE FUTBOL” on the perimeter. One shank has the World Cup logo with “MEXICO” and “1970” while the other has another world emblem. Inside is stamped “10K”. While the exact person awarded this ring is unknown, the rarity of this heirloom is certainly apparent. Detailed research has found no other ring of this type available for public auction. Excellent condition.
