Former No. 1 overall pick Alex Smith arguably never quite got the shot he deserved to be the successor to 49ers quarterback greats Joe Montana and Steve Young, despite posting respectable numbers during his seven-year tenure in San Francisco. Now with the Chiefs, who he led to the AFC playoffs in 2013 behind a 11-4 record as the starter, Smith has established himself as one of the more reliable starters in the NFL. This Smith game-used red 49ers mesh home jersey comes from San Francisco’s 27-24 loss to Philadelphia on October 10, 2010. Smith was 25-of-39 passing for 309 yards and three touchdowns that day. The jersey shows heavy signs of game use in what was clearly a busy day for Smith. His number “11,” which appears in white tackle twill on both sides, is soiled front and back with thick dirt and grass stains. “SMITH” appears across the back of the jersey in white tackle twill on a red name plate, with his number “11” also adorning both shoulders in white tackle twill. The right chest of the jersey features a pink captain’s patch that color for the NFL’s breast cancer awareness movement in October, and a “49ers” logo patch at the center of the chest. The fitted mesh jersey boasts a white strip tag on the inside collar that reads “10-44,” for the jersey’s year and size. White “Reebok” logos are stitched on both sleeves of the jersey. The item comes with a PSA/DNA COA, number “N68071.”
