The “Spline” bat was an experiment of the Louisville Slugger bat company, featuring an inlay of hickory wood on the back barrel. The purpose was to limit the amount of grain separation occurring in ash bats. Spline bats were distributed to Major League players during spring training from 1961-1963 and some may have been used in the regular season. This un-cracked 35-inch, 31.2-ounce Hillerich and Bradsby, “Powerized” Louisville slugger was issued to New York Yankees legendary Hall of Famer Yogi Berra and shows evidence of light use with a smattering of ball marks on the barrel near Berra’s engraved facsimile signature and has a small chip in its knob; comes with PSA/DNA LOA certification #1B08450.
