Lou Whitaker’s productive career really took hold in the 1983 season, when the Detroit Tigers second baseman earned his first of five straight American League All-Star Game appearances. Offered are Whitaker’s game-used cleats from the ‘83 Midsummer Classic. The three-time Gold Glove winner and 1978 AL Rookie of the Year signed both size 9 white Pony cleats in bold, black Sharpie on the outside of each foot along with the inscription “#1.” The cleats, which show moderate evidence of game use, still have dirt stuck in the metal spikes that line the bottom of the shoes. The cleats were not used again after the All-Star Game. The signed cleats are accompanied by a full LOA signed by Whitaker.
