They say the triple is the most exciting play in baseball, hard hit smash deep to the outfield, speedy runner sprinting around the bases while the defenders retrieve the ball. The play is almost always close, and when the umpire signals “SAFE”, cheers erupt. That is why this triple signed Jackie Robinson check is so exciting, as the player himself was game changing like a smoked triple ever time he stepped between the white lines. The Royal National Bank of New York check is dated”4-17-1968”, and made out to “Jackie Robinson” (signature No. 1) in the amount of $4,000.00. A large amount for that time period, especially when it was well before private signing came de rigueur for retired ball players. Jackie has signed the check "Jack R. Robinson" in bright blue pen (signature No. 2), and endorsed on the verso “Jackie Robinson” (signature No. 3). The personal 2.75" x 6.25" check shows normal bank cancellation stamps, with the two front signatures affected to some degree. However, the verso signature is unaffected, and all three signatures are bold, blue ink beauties. Jackie Robinson is one of the most sought after signatures in the hobby, and due to his untimely death in 1972, it remains one of the harder to find. This triple signed check comes from his wife Rachel makes it all the more special, and is accompanied by a signed 1993 dated Letter of Authenticity from Rachel Robinson.
