As one of the leading sluggers in the first half of the 20th Century, Mel Ott blasted 511 home runs, using his patented high leg kick to generate tremendous torque from his 5’9” frame. This bat has many of the same use characteristics of Ott gamers, such as the heavily scored handle to gain a better grip, but was likely ordered by the team as a stock bat. Since Ott was hitting all these home runs with this same style bat, why not order same model bats for use by other players? This 34 inch, 35 ounce un-cracked Louisville Slugger bat has his name “Melvin Ott” scripted into the barrel with a center brand dating this bat to the 1944-49 manufacturing period. The bat exhibits tremendous game use with ball and stitch marks, heavy cleats indentations, while “016” has been stamped on the knob. This is the standard Ott model number used during his career, however, the bat weight of 35 ounces is heavier than the 33 ounce bats Ott ordered late in his career, as indicated by his personal bat ordering records. This is a tremendous looking Mel Ott professional model bat, likely order by the New York Giants team as a team index stock bat. Full LOA from MEARS, grading the bat A8.
