Due to retire this year, Derek Jeter has played 20 seasons in Major League Baseball with the New York Yankees and won five World Series championships. Drafted by the Yankees out of high school in 1992, Jeter debuted in the Majors for the first time on May 29, 1995. He became the starting shortstop for the Yankees’ 1996 season on Opening Day, becoming the first Yankee rookie to start since 1962, and hit his first Major League home run that same day. In his rookie season, Jeter batted .314 with 10 homers, 104 runs scored and 78 RBI. Hitting his first postseason home run during Game One of the ’96 American League Championship Series vs. the Baltimore Orioles, the Yankees went on to win the ALCS along with the ’96 World Series against the Atlanta Braves, their first championship since 1978. Jeter won the AL Rookie of the Year Award with a unanimous vote, receiving all 28 first-place votes. This Rawlings Official Gene A. Budig American League Ball is signed by the Yankee captain Derek Jeter with his rookie era signature in black ballpoint pen on the west panel. This ball is accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA, number S00298, along with a PSA/DNA sticker on the north panel.
