The inaugural World Baseball Classic saw its inception in 2006 as 16 countries battled in the United States, Japan and Puerto Rico to claim the event’s first crown. The United States was led by whom else but Derek Jeter, the soon-to-be New York Yankees Hall of Fame shortstop who at that time was just a 22-year-old in his second season in the big leagues. This official World Baseball Classic ball, signed by Jeter in blue ink below the tournament’s logo, comes from the United States’ 8-6 opening round loss to Canada. Jeter doubled this very Rawlings baseball off Canadian reliever Chris Begg in the fifth inning of the contest. The signed baseball shows evident signs of game use, including several scuff marks and bat impressions. The signed baseball is certified under the MLB Authentication program, number “WBCBB000669” and comes with a Steiner COA.
