Sept. 11, 2009 will live forever in the long list of New York Yankees history as the night Derek Jeter surpassed Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig as the Bronx Bombers’ all-time hits leader. Jeter picked up hits 2,722 and 2,723 in a 10-4 loss to the Orioles, marking a supreme bright spot in an otherwise unpleasant game for New York. This OML Selig baseball is marked “D-6” and was in home plate umpire Kerwin Danley’s ball bag for Jeter’s monumental at-bat. Jeter signed the game-used baseball in blue ink on the south panel below a stamped “YANKEE STADIUM INAUGURAL SEASON” logo. The signed baseball shows heavy signs of game use, including scattered discoloration. The “6” in “D-6” is handwritten in black sharpie. The signed baseball comes with a signed LOA from Steiner, certification number “97335,” a Steiner COA and certification from the MLB Authentication program, number “LH617812.”
