Derek Jeter opened the New York Yankees’ road game against the Seattle Mariners on Aug. 16, 2009 just as he did so many times before, with a leadoff single in the top of the first inning. Jeter was one of the few positives on that day for the Bronx Bombers, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and became the all-time leader for most hits by a shortstop Jeter passed Hall of Famer Luis Aparacio when he ripped a double for hit No. 2,674 in an otherwise forgettable 10-3 loss at Safeco Field. Jeter signed this game-used baseball from that defeat in blue ink on the sweet spot. The baseball was the result of a two-run double by Mariners second baseman Jose Lopez off Yankees starting pitcher Joba Chamberlain in the bottom of the third inning. The signed baseball shows heavy signs of game use, including a prominent dirt mark just below Jeter’s signature. The signed Rawlings OML baseball comes with a Steiner COA and is certified under the MLB Authentication program, number “LH199417.”
