The 2008 Home Run Derby during the All-Star Game festivities provided the center stage for Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton’s remarkable comeback season. Although Hamilton did not win the Home Run derby his 28 long balls in the first round set a new first-round record and captivated the imaginations of baseball fans across the country. Hamilton would continue his red-hot streak all the way to the season’s end finishing with 32 home runs and an American League leading 130 RBI. Serving up the tasty taters that night was Hamilton’s own personal batting practice pitcher, Clay Council a 71-year-old volunteer coach who frequently threw BP to Hamilton when he was a high school player in North Carolina. Both Hamilton and Council signed this Rawlings Official Bud Selig Major League Baseball; Hamilton’s signature is on the sweet spot in blue ballpoint pen while Council’s is on the side panel in a slightly shaky hand with a “BP Pitcher for Josh Hamilton” inscription. This is a unique souvenir capturing a very sweet and sentimental moment and comes with PSA/DNA COA #U27475.
