No one signed more vintage autographs than Babe Ruth, the man adored by millions of people around the world. Offered is a 7-9/16 x 3-3/16 inch personal check, dated “Sept. 16th, 1946”, twice signed by Hall of Fame outfielder Babe Ruth. Drawn on his usual “Chemical Bank & Trust Company” of New York, New York, the check is made out to "Clair Ruth" in the amount of “$50.00” and is signed in blue fountain pen "GH Ruth". Ruth continuously provided his wife with necessary cash for her day to day expenses. The signature is very bold, grading a (“9/10”) in strength. Printed along the left border is “BABE RUTH”. Endorsed on the verso “Claire Ruth” and once again by “GH Ruth.” While there are several stamped and punctured cancellation stamps, none of these necessary transactional markings affect the tremendous signatures. However, a small pencil marking does cross into the front Ruth signature. Check is in nice condition, with several vertical folds. Autograph collectors have always placed a special premium on checks due to their inherent authenticity. While the Babe did sign lots of checks, there are simply not enough Ruth checks to satisfy all the collectors who demand these mini-contracts. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
