One of the toughest things for young baseball players to do is achieve success immediately upon breaking into the Major Leagues, as the jump in talent level is a huge increase over any level of the minor leagues. However, some do achieve initial stardom. Those players in each league who achieve the highest level of success their first season is awarded the Jackie Robinson Award, also known as the Rookie of the Year. Robinson was the first recipient of the ROY award in 1947. This white OML Selig ball contains 14 blue ink signatures with each adding their year of winning the award.
