In his fourth All-Star Game, New York Yankees pitcher Mel Stottlemyre was named the American League’s starter at Robert F Kennedy Stadium in Washington D.C. on July 23, 1969 and took the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits in two innings including a two-run homer to National League starting catcher Johnny Bench in the American League’s 9-3 loss to the Nationals. Stottlemyre did not make it to the plate but was still issued this 35-inch, 34.1-ounce Hillerich and Bradsby Louisville Slugger model K55 bat which reveals no evidence of game use but is signed by Stottlemyre in bold blue sharpie with an “All Star Game 1969” inscription between the label and the All Star Game Mel Stottlemyre 1969 Washington branding on the barrel; comes with PSA/DNA LOA certification # 1B08434.
