Although he retired all five batters he faced, New York Yankees hurler Mel Stottlemyre was still tagged with a blown save in the American League’s 5-4, 12-inning loss to the Nationals at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati on July 14, 1970. Stottlemyre came in to face Roberto Clemente with one out and Joe Morgan on third, surrendering a sacrifice fly that allowed the National League to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. Stottlemyre did not bat but was still issued this 34.5-inch, 33.9-ounce Hillerich and Bradsby Louisville Slugger model K55 bat which reveals no evidence of game use but is signed by Stottlemyre in bold blue Sharpie with an “All Star Game 1970” inscription between the label and the All Star Game Mel Stottlemyre 1970 Cincinnati branding on the barrel; comes with PSA/DNA LOA certification # 1B08436.
