New York Yankees workhorse hurler Mel Stottlemyre was just two-days removed from a nine-inning complete game 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles when he made his third All-Star game appearance for the American League at the Astrodome in Houston on July 9, 1968. Stottlemyre struck out Hank Aaron, the only batter he faced, leading off the bottom of the eighth inning in the American League’s 1-0 loss to the Nationals and did not bat during the game but he was still issued this 35-inch, 35.1-ounce Hillerich and Bradsby Louisville Slugger model K55 bat which reveals no evidence of game use but is signed by Stottlemyre in bold black Sharpie with an “All Star Game 1968” inscription between the label and the All Star Game Stottlemyre 1968 Houston branding on the barrel. Stottlemyre’s number 30 is also written on the end of the barrel in black marker; comes with PSA/DNA LOA certification # 1B08439.
