On the brink of the New York Mets greatest success since the Miracle of 1969, the 1985 Mets pitching staff boasted 20-year old sophomore sensation Dwight Gooden (24-4, 1.53 ERA). He was commandeered by second-year pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre who would go on to become one of the most successful pitching coaches in major league history. Stottlemyre wore this size-44 Rawlings New York Mets pullover V-neck road jersey with a manufacturers label with “Set 1” flag tag and “30 44 1” strip tag sewn onto the inside back collar during the 1985 season. Stottlemyre’s name is stitched onto a nameplate in blue and orange tackle twill above his number 30 in the same fashion on the back. The Mets cursive logo is in the same blue and orange tackle twill above his number 30 on the front. Blue and orange piping runs across the shoulders and along the sides of the jersey. Stottlemyre signed the jersey in bright silver sharpie on the 3 in his number 30 on the back with a “1985 Game Used” inscription. Signature is PSA/DNA pre-certified and jersey comes with LOAs from Mel Stottlemyre and noted sports jersey expert Dave Miedema.
