On April 20, 2102 the New York Yankees played at Boston’s Fenway Park, and since they held a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the 9th inning, Mariano Rivera did not begin the inning since it was not a “save situation.” However, when Cody Eppley allowed a leadoff hit, manger Joe Girardi did not want the game to get out of hand, and brought in his closer. Rivera whiffed two in his scoreless inning of work, ending the game for a Yankee victory. This is the chair Rivera used in the clubhouse before and after the game. The standard folding chair has the “1912 Fenway Park 100 Years logo” and thick cushioning on the seat and the backrest. An MLB hologram on the reverse (EK177545) indicates this chair was used by Rivera. This 2012 season was Rivera’s most difficult, as a few short weeks later, he tore his knee in a pre-game batting practice accident and did not play the remainder of the season. MLB Authenticated (EK177545).
