Major League Baseball’s ironman, Cal Ripken Jr., watched his storied Hall of Fame career wind to a close in 2001 after 21 memorable seasons in the Big Leagues. Offered is a coveted piece of history from Ripken’s final days as an Oriole, his next to last career home run (No. 430), hit on Sept. 18, 2001, in the eighth inning of a game against the Blue Jays. Ripken signed the Rawlings OML Selig baseball on the west panel in vivid blue ink above the inscription: “Game Used 9-18-01 430th Career Home Run Game” The baseball shows great evidence of game use, including a large dirt scuff on the south panel likely from an errand pitch or foul ball. The signed baseball is verified under the MLB Authentication program, number “AR080810.”
