On October 6, 1985, Phil Niekro notched his 300th career victory pitching a shutout over the Toronto Blue Jays. Even though he was a three-time 20+ game winner, Niekro was never considered great due to his heavy use of the “trick pitch” knuckleball. Interestingly, on this final day of the 1985 season Niekro shut out the American League East Champion Blue Jays by throwing zero knuckleballs the entire game until the final batter. Phil wanted to prove he could pitch the “right way”, even at the age of 45! This moderately toned and lightly worn ball has been signed boldly on the sweet spot in blue ink “Phil Niekro 300 10-6-85”. Superb game used item form this milestone game. LOA from JSA.
