One of the sub-categories of collecting original photos is when these images are captured and reproduced on baseball cards. These types of images are highly desirable to photo collectors. Offered is a 6-5/8 x 8-1/2 inch original photo of three Hall of Famers – Eddie Collins, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. The trio is all interrelated in that Collins, as Boston Red Sox scout/General Manager “found” Ted Williams on the sandlots of San Diego, and Ruth was always Ted’s idol. Here they posed for a picture before a game the Babe was taking in, famed cigar in hand. Ruth is waxing poetic while both Collins and Ted are smiling broadly. While this is not the exact pose used for 1959 Fleer Ted Williams Set card #75 (also shown here, but not included in the lot), it was snapped immediately after, as Ted was looking at Ruth (on the card), but after listening to Ruth crack a joke, turned away to laugh. This image has part of the original caption still attached, contains the International News Photo large red stamp on the verso, and has a few editor notations. The photo is in excellent condition with light crease, and usual crinkling associated with vintage photos. Tremendous image of the three Hall of Famers, three of the best players ever to lace up the spikes.
