They were the greatest team of all time, the 1927 New York Yankees, known as Murderer’s Row. This team blew through the American League and swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series. This lot of vintage cuts all derive from the autograph book of a young fan, who personally engaged his heroes for their signatures. Many of the “cuts” are smaller cuts affixed to slightly larger pages, many in fountain pen but includes one pencil signature, ranging in grade from (“7-9”). Some which are affixed to the second paper also have the date which we assume the signature was obtained, all dated in August 1928. However, all those players with 1928 signatures were part of the 1927 Murderer’s Row, with most of those players part of the 1928 team which swept the St. Louis Cardinals in that World Series. Includes: Babe Ruth (“8”, very light smudge), Lou Gehrig (pencil, “7”), Earle Combs, Bob Meusel, Wilcy Moore, Cedric Durst, Waite Hoyt, Bob Shawkey, Bennie Bengough (2), Pat Collins, Mark Koenig, John Grabowski, Herb Pennock, Joe Dugan and Myles Thomas.
