Although Joe Jackson's major league baseball career ended after the 1920 season, he did not simply retire from the game. Jackson was semi-literate and possessed no marketable job skills other than playing ball. So with no other jobs available, Jackson continued to play baseball in semipro leagues, barnstorming across the country, sometimes under his own name, and sometimes under aliases. Offered is a side written H&B Louisville Slugger bat with Joe Jackson's trademark Black Betsy finish. This 34.75", 33.5 ounce black finish bat features a 1921-31 era H&B center brand and has been side written "John Let 7-30-28." Bat exhibits signs of heavy use with ball marks, stitch marks, cleat marks and a handle crack which has been repaired by two period screws. The word "FUNNY" has also been stamped into the barrel's end. Full LOA from MEARS, grading the bat A7.
